In addition to the Blackberry Smoke concert, this year’s event will feature over 175 exhibits; a Super Truck Beauty Contest, Antique Truck Display; Iowa pork chop cookout; Trucker Olympics; carnival games; live music; a fireworks display and loads of fun for the whole family!  The 2013 Walcott Truckers Jamboree has also expanded as a three day event to include Saturday.  Admission and parking are FREE!  Shuttles will be provided from the parking area to the event grounds.

“My dad founded the Walcott Truckers Jamboree 34 years ago to show his appreciation for drivers and all their hard work in moving America’s freight,” says Delia Moon Meier, Iowa 80 Senior Vice President.  “Everyone at Iowa 80 is proud to continue the tradition of celebrating truckers and promoting a positive image of the trucking industry.  We can’t think of a better way to say Thank You.”

The first Walcott Truckers Jamboree only attracted a few hundred people in 1979 and featured a few exhibits, live music, food and a small display of antique trucks.  Today, the Walcott Truckers Jamboree attracts approximately 30,000 attendees.  Celebrating America’s Truckers is why the Jamboree was founded all those years ago and is still the focus of the event.

The 34th Annual Walcott Truckers Jamboree, will be held July 11-13, 2013 at Iowa 80 Truckstop, I-80 Exit 284, Walcott, Iowa.

The new Weigh My Truck^™ application allows drivers to weigh their truck, pay for the transaction via PayPal^® and get the weights displayed right on their smartphone.  The app will also email a PDF copy scale ticket or weight information text file to up to five email addresses the driver specifies.  If a driver needs a hard copy scale ticket, they can still pick up a printed CAT Scale ticket at the fuel desk within an hour after weighing using the Weigh My Truck^™ application.

The new application is currently being tested and will be available to the trucking public in June.  Drivers will be able to create an account online that will store basic truck information and email preferences as well as keep a record of past weigh transactions.

The Peel Family has been running the Iowa 80 Kitchen restaurant since partnering with the Moon Family, who owns and operates the truckstop, in 1964.  “I remember riding with my dad out to this piece of land in Walcott to meet with Bill Moon, and thinking to myself that this seemed crazy.  Bill and my dad came to an agreement and I must say that I’m glad they did,” laughs Peel.

Dirt work has already begun on the project which is scheduled to be completed in the spring.  “We want to make sure that our customers have plenty of safe, well-lit truck parking spaces,” says Delia Moon Meier.  “It’s important they know we will always have a space for them.”

The new truck parking spaces will bring Iowa 80 Truckstop’s total truck parking capacity to just over 900.
